It's now Sunday afternoon - Sarah is ironing and I have given up trying to add photos to my blog - probably fortunate as I have 100's of them - however I am sure when I eventually reach Perth I shall engage my lovely daughter in selecting the right photo for the right occasion ! Just watch this space or one very similar !
Sarah continued her excellent job as tour guide this morning as thunder storms are forecast for tonight (oh dear wet walk to the restaurant this evening then)
With various road closures to delay our direct route to the chosen destination Sarah managed to find a secure parking - for members only - at the Royal Selangor Club - we were on a walking tour - didn't get too far when one flip flop flipped completely - so we had to retrace our steps to the car to retrieve a more reliable set of footwear !
Setting off with more confidence we walked around the old colonial area and popped into to the Arch Kuala City Gallery ! Thought we'd "do" a bit of culture - plus as a bonus it was air conditioned! Actually it was extremely interesting and in English as well as Chinese, Malaysian thankfully ! We found out all about the tradition and meanings of the food eaten during the Chinese New Year Celebrations ! What impresses me about KL is the tolerance between all religions ! Malaysia is predominately Muslim the mosques are just so beautiful but the Malay Muslims are so tolerant of all religions - religious freedom is an given - mosques sit happily beside Indian Shrines; Chinese Temples and Christian Churches - as in Singapore - I have to admit I've not stumbled across a Synagogue but to be honest I haven't been actively seeking one out !
There was also an audio (very loud) along with a visual display quoting all the vital statistics of the the Federal state of Kuala Lumpur there are 11 districts none of which I can pronounce sadly ! The display also showed where future buildings were going to be built and the new high speed rail link which will reduce the time from KL to Singapore to 90 minutes ! Currently the only train to ply that route is the Orient Express - the journey probably costing more than the average annual wage !
I think that Mel would be incredibly interested in the models that were on show for their craftsmanship!
The beautiful wooden pictures, of all shapes and sizes and of all manner of subjects from the KL skyline to the Nativity scene - and everything in between - are all there in the Tourist Gift Shop! It was such a temptation!!!!! Apparently all the pictures are assembles by hand although all the wood is cut by lazer !
For 5 ringgits you get an entry ticket for the museum that gives you some amazing discounts in the cafe or the shop - Sarah and I had a mug of tea each and shared a sugar donut - the first oh naughty of the holiday (if you exclude the glasses of red wine last night and a bit of chocolate) for FREE which we thought was really good ! Free food always tastes so much better !
Okay I'm sure you will be delighted that I'm signing off - my patience with electronic gagetry has been totally exhausted ! Tablets are light and easy to transport but give me a proper keyboard with all the editorial gismos any day especially cut and paste !!!
