Kuala Lumpur airport is just one incredible place ! It has to be seen to be believed - it is soooo big that there is a high speed train to take you to immigration control and baggage claim after having walked MILES from our gate through a miriad of shops cafes bars etc etc and at 7am local time after a fairly sleep deprived night of knitting and reading - I was very eager to catch up with Sarah get to the apartment and a restorative shower!
I have to admit I was somewhat in trepidation when I got on the train as the automatic doors started to shut and caught my backpack - another whoops - especially when a very stern voice announced that there was an obstruction with the doors and until it was removed the train could not leave - I tried to look unsuccessfully guiltless! I wasn't totally sure if the train did indeed go to the baggage claim area - the train stopped everyone hopped off including me another six mike hike or so it seemed when low and behold passport control - huge sign of relief - loads of immigration desks open for foreign passport holders! Hardly had to wait for my finger prints to be taken (another minor whoops could not remember my flight number but found my boarding pass stuffed in my hand bag - sign of relief) and off to baggage claim - I was there so quickly that the carousel hadn't even started up ! Eventually "the" bag arrived - by golly hernia time memo to self do NOT pack so much next time ! That's if there is a next time I would so love to explore this gorgeous city with Mel !
Sarah bless her was there waiting for me - looking amazingly gorgeous at that early hour of the morning - she bought me some water to keep me hydrated as it was a long journey home - once we found the car in the massive car park !
Talk about hair raising the journey home - not I hasten to add was it Sarah's driving that was a worry - she was absolutely amazing - put it this way I enjoy driving but you would NEVER catch me driving in Mayasia in general Kuala Lumpur in particular! There are millions of motorbikes who seem to be bent on suicide, having total disregard for their own or anyone else's safety ! Lane discipline is unheard of and certainly not adhered to !!! Sarah's sat nav decided to have a strop and refused to speak to us until Sarah looking at her phone with the moving map made an unscheduled move ! That probably shook the sat nav into action ! I have to admit to admit our sat nav is far more courteous than hers!
We arrived an hour later at the complex - oh my word what a gorgeous apartment - its bigger than No 6 (not that that's difficult) its a three bedroom three ensuits luxury apartment! A laundry room a huge kitchen area, a maids area with a loo and shower plus a visitors loo ! Amazing or what ? The apartment is on the 9th floor - thankfully with an excellent bank of fast elevators, an undercover allotted parking place and very good security - the main gate guarded 24/7 with very smartly uniformed guards ! The outside area is mainly under cover - okay that sounds like an oxymoron - but there is a very high entrance area to the apartments that sports the undercover gardens plus a large pond with waterfall with huge resident koi carp ! The covered garden is way bigger than our entire garden in Shipham! This is the life I'm sure I was born to, I am oh so very comfortable here, I think Sarah and Rog could have a problem evicting me !
Yesterday ! gosh was it only yesterday ? so much seems to be happening its like life on fast forward ! After unpacking and a much needed and appreciated shower Sarah took me into China Town so very pretty with all the lanterns decorating the area for the Chinese New Year ! We visited the Chinese Temple strongly smelling of incense which happily masked the odours from nearby sewers as well as highly spiced street food! We wandered through the market areas and found an Pandora's box of habadashery and bought a lovely largish mother of pearl button for 1.50 ringgits (there are 5 ringgitts to the £ !) Talk about the last of the big spenders!
Sarah is a wonderful guide - all the local areas - plus some air conditioned ones (which was very much appreciated) it is warm here strange to relate but thankfully other than rivers of perspiration making canals running down my back - its not unbearable!
I have to admit that when we returned to the apartment, had lunch I had to admit defeat and had an hours snooze on Sarah's very comfy settee ! Once Rog came home we elected to eat out and set off on foot to the one way street that is home to all the pavement "restaurants" ! This too was such an experience ! I was just a little concerned about the hygiene but was assured by Rog that they had never been ill after eating at their favourite place - so on to their favourite place we went ! I wanted to pay but was concerned that these places would not be credit card friendly ! I need not have worried! We had the most amazingly appetising meal totally delicious with beer for Rog and coconut water served in the whole fresh coconuts ! And the price was - wait for it 85 ringgits - £17 for stuffing ourselves! I needless to say had sufficient cash and gave our waiter 10 ringgits as a tip - well you would have thought I had given him the crown jewels! Sarah and I plan to go back there tomorrow!
Right nearing the end of day 1 in KL and my blog for the time being, for after 36 hours with only a couple of hours sleep the gorgeous crisp white sheets on my very inviting double bed! Sleep came very easily !
